Apple Not Satisfied With iPhone 16 Pro Max Screens Four Months Ahead Of Launch: Report

Author: Rounak Jain | May 28, 2024 08:58am

Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) has reportedly put a pause on the mass production of its iPhone 16 Pro Max screens due to quality issues.

What Happened: A report from The Elec on Friday revealed that Apple has given the green light for mass production of three out of four iPhone 16 displays, but the iPhone 16 Pro Max screens have not met the company’s quality standards yet.

The report states that this year’s display production has been split between three suppliers: Samsung, LG, and BOE. Samsung and LG have been approved for mass production of the iPhone 16 Pro screens, but the iPhone 16 Pro Max screens are still pending approval.

It is anticipated that Samsung will receive approval later this week, while LG may not pass the quality checks until mid-June.

The delay is believed to be due to a new ultra-thin bezel technology, known as Border Reduction Structure (BRS), which has reportedly caused overheating issues.

However, once these production issues are resolved, both iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max models are expected to feature brighter displays.

Why It Matters: The iPhone 16 Pro Max has been a topic of interest for Apple enthusiasts and industry analysts alike.

Earlier this month, renowned Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo predicted new color options for the iPhone 16 Pro models, replacing the traditional blue with rose titanium.

Additionally, the iPhone 16 Pro Max was expected to receive a battery boost and a stainless steel upgrade. This recent halt in production could potentially delay these anticipated features.

Furthermore, Apple’s iPhone has been hailed as a significant player in the company’s potential to reach a $4 trillion market capitalization this year, with the iPhone’s AI capabilities being a key factor. Any delay in the production of the iPhone 16 Pro Max could impact these projections.
