Elon Musk Reacts After Doge Designer Says Meta 'Would Be Trillionaires By Now' If They Had A Dollar For Every Child Safety Investigation

Tesla Inc. CEO Elon Musk laughed at a post by a user about a fresh investigation into Meta Platforms Inc. (NASDAQ:META) over child safety concerns.

What Happened: Musk made a joke about Meta Platforms and its child safety investigations, reacting to a post that suggested that the company would be "trillionaires" if they had a dollar for every such investigation.

"If Meta had a dollar for every time a child safety investigation was opened against them, they would be trillionaires by now."

Musk responded with a laugh and implied that the post was accurate.

Meta did not immediately respond to Benzinga's request for comment.

Earlier in May, Meta was fined $37.2 million by Turkey’s competition board over its data-sharing practices. Musk agreed with a post on X that said “Meta can’t be trusted” after the fine was announced.

Why It Matters: Musk’s post comes at a time when Meta is facing increased scrutiny over its child safety practices. The company is now under a fresh investigation by the EU over child safety risks, as reported by Reuters.

Meta has also been criticized for its handling of child safety issues in the past. The company was urged by the U.K. to prioritize child safety over encryption on its platforms. Despite these concerns, Meta has continued to face challenges related to child safety on its platforms.

The company and Zuckerberg have also been accused of prioritizing "growth ahead of children's safety" in a recently unredacted lawsuit.
