Warner Bros. Discovery Inc (NASDAQ:WBD) CEO David Zaslav revealed during an earnings call that the anticipated movie “Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum” is slated for a 2026 release.
According to The Verge, Zaslav promised to "explore storylines yet to be told” within J.R.R. Tolkien‘s beloved universe.
The film marks the collaboration between WBD and New Line Cinema, the company behind Peter Jackson‘s iconic “Lord of the Rings” trilogy.
Andy Serkis will direct the feature and also reprise his role as Gollum. The movie boasts a formidable lineup of producers including Jackson, Fran Walsh, and Philippa Boyens.
Serkis, in a statement, echoed Gollum’s iconic hiss with a cryptic “yesssss, Precious,” while Jackson expressed his excitement, deeming it “an honour and a privilege to travel back to Middle-earth.”
Despite the buzz surrounding the project, casting details remain under wraps, leaving fans eagerly anticipating announcements.
Additionally, WBD has been tight-lipped about specific plot details, heightening intrigue about the narrative direction of the film.
