Shares of Nucor Corporation (NYSE:NUE) fell sharply during Tuesday's session after the company reported worse-than-expected quarterly financial results.

Nucor reported quarterly earnings of $3.46 per share which missed the analyst consensus estimate of $3.65. Quarterly sales came in at $8.14 billion, missing the analyst consensus estimate of $8.26 billion, according to data from Benzinga Pro.

Nucor shares tumbled 6.5% to $179.20 on Tuesday.
