Elon Musk Might Not Like This Tune: Lucid Air Takes Center Stage Over Cybertruck In Music Video Hit

Author: Chris Katje | March 28, 2024 03:35pm

Vehicles have long been a staple in music videos, and the trend continues with Tesla Inc‘s (NASDAQ:TSLA) Cybertruck making appearances in numerous clips. This exposure has amplified interest in the electric pickup since its release in November 2023.

Now, a rival electric vehicle company is also seeing one of its vehicles featured in a hit music video.

What Happened: The likes of Pharrell Williams, The Weeknd, Travis Scott and more have used Cybertrucks in music videos.

A new music video from Meghan Trainor and T-Pain features a Lucid Air from electric vehicle company Lucid Group (NYSE:LCID).

The song, "Been Like This," is the lead single for Trainor's upcoming sixth major-label studio album titled "Timeless." The album, which is set to release in June, comes from Sony Group Corp (NYSE:SONY) unit Epic Records.

The music video features the Lucid Air several times, with its first appearance coming around the 50-second mark.

At the time of writing, the music video has over 280,000 views in one day and is listed as the #24 trending video on the video platform.

Why It's Important: The video featuring the Lucid Air comes as shares of the electric vehicle company are down over 60% in the last year.

Although Lucid hasn’t yet matched the presence of its vehicles in music videos like some other brands, featuring the Lucid Air in such videos could serve as a launchpad, drawing attention to its design and potentially attracting new customers.

Tesla, on the other hand, isn't just seeing Cybertrucks used by musicians in music videos. The company is turning celebrities into customers, without discounts or endorsement deals.

Among the people who reportedly own Cybertrucks are Big Sean, Steve Aoki, Alexis Ohanian, Jay-Z, Beyonce, Kim Kardashian, Lady Gaga, Pharrell Williams, Justin Bieber and Jay Leno.

Perhaps, we'll see celebrities driving Lucid Airs in the future, which could bring a new wave of attention to the electric vehicle company.

LCID Price Action: Lucid shares are down 1.1% to $2.94 on Thursday, versus a 52-week trading range of $2.54 to $8.87.
