Marylanders spent a record $96.5 million on cannabis products in December, reported Marijuana Moment citing data published by the Maryland Cannabis Administration (MCA).

Out of that sum, recreational cannabis sales accounted for $61.5 million, while medical marijuana totaled roughly $35 million for the month.

Maryland has been reporting record sales since the recreational market launch this past summer. At the time, existing cannabis companies that operated in Maryland, such as Curaleaf Holdings Inc. (CSE:CURA) (OTC:CURLF), Green Thumb Industries Inc. (OTCQX:GTBIF) (CSE:GTII), Verano Holdings Corp. (CSE:VRNO) (OTCQX:VRNOF) and Cresco Labs Inc (OTC:CRLBF), to name a few, made the switch to adult-use shops by paying a one-time fee of 8% of their gross 2022 dispensary revenue (not to exceed $2 million).

In just the first seven days after legal cannabis sales got underway on July 1, licensed shops raked in $20.9 million in weed products and they’ve been going strong ever since.

In total, Maryland recorded $787.5 million in sales of legalized marijuana products combined in 2023.

Over the same period Rhode Islanders spent over $107.8 million on combined cannabis sales, writes Marijuana Moment, citing data from the state's Department of Business Regulation (DBR).

On a monthly basis, December saw record-breaking sales of recreational marijuana, as purchases soared to $7.8 million, while medical cannabis sales amounted to $2.4 million for the period.

Marijuana edibles, raw prerolls, vape carts, and prepackaged cannabis flower were all in high demand in December when it came to sales by product type, while consumers cut back on purchases of concentrates, infused prerolls and tinctures, DBT data showed.
