Nissan Vehicles Under US Scrutiny Over Engine Failure Concerns: Report

Author: Shivani Kumaresan | December 15, 2023 08:48am

The U.S. Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) has reportedly initiated an inquiry into approximately 454,840 Nissan Motor Co Ltd (OTC:NSANY) (OTC:NSANF) vehicles following reports of engine failures that could result in loss of motive power and inability to restart the vehicle.

The preliminary evaluation by the ODI involves Nissan Rogue, Altima, and Infiniti Qx50 vehicles, reported Reuters.

The decision follows six complaints regarding engine failures, power loss, and unusual engine noises, with some cases involving metal debris found in the oil pan of vehicles with the KR15DDT and KR20DDET engines, as per the report.

The report further added that Nissan implemented multiple changes in the manufacturing process over time to address the issues of main bearing and L-link damage or seizures in these engines.

The ODI's investigation may be expanded, if necessary, based on the findings and developments during the preliminary evaluation.
