Nestlé To Develop Products For Users Of 'Miracle' Weight-Loss Drugs Like Ozempic, Wegovy

Swiss food conglomerate, Nestlé SA (OTC:NSRGY), announced plans to create products that pair with popular weight-loss medications like Ozempic, Wegovy, and Mounjaro.

As per a Forbes report, this move comes amid concerns about the potential impacts these appetite-suppressing drugs might have on the food industry.

The company’s CEO, Mark Schneider, revealed during an earnings briefing that Nestlé is exploring health aids for the increasing number of individuals utilizing weight-loss treatments. These medications, originally designed to manage Type 2 diabetes, curtail the desire to eat by simulating an appetite-controlling gut hormone.

Schneider noted that the reduced food intake presents an opportunity for Nestlé to introduce products such as supplements that can support weight loss while ensuring that individuals receive the necessary nutrients. These “companion products” could also help prevent the loss of lean muscle mass and ensure that weight loss is maintained.

In response to concerns about the effect of these weight-loss drugs on the food industry’s revenues, Schneider emphasized that most of Nestlé’s portfolio “will not be affected” as consumers will continue to consume coffee and pet food, two of the company’s major revenue streams. Nonetheless, the company is “carefully” monitoring the situation to ascertain if there will be any impact on demand for its food products.
