Lotus Electric GT Emeya To Go Into Production Next Year

Author: Anan Ashraf | September 08, 2023 08:22am

British automaker Lotus Technology on Thursday debuted its first electric hyper-GT vehicle- Emeya.

What Happened: The Emeya can accelerate from 0-62mph (0-100km/h) in 2.8 seconds and top up approximately 150km of range in just 5 minutes using a 350kW DC fast charger. Production is expected to commence in 2024.

“Amid robust BEV market demand, Emeya adds to our strong offering in the luxury EV segment to better serve customers' growing needs and preferences,” CEO Qingfeng Feng said.

Lotus said in August 2021 that it will launch four new pure electric models over the next five years- the first of which was the fully electric hyperSUV Eletre. Eletre’s first global deliveries began in March this year.

The Emeya is the second on the list and will be followed by a new Lotus D-segment SUV and a Lotus EV sports car until 2026. By 2027, Lotus expects to have an all-electric portfolio.

Why It Matters: Lotus announced a plan of merger with blank check company L Catterton Asia Acquisition Corp (NASDAQ:LCAA) in January.

The transaction is expected to be completed later this year with Lotus becoming a public company with a pro forma enterprise value of $5.6 billion.

Chinese automaker Geely Automobile Holdings Ltd (OTCPK: GELYF) is the majority shareholder of Lotus, now headquartered in Wuhan, China.
