Russian Agency FSB Discovers Alleged NSA Plot Using Malware Against Apple iPhones to Spy

- Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB) claimed to have detected a U.S. National Security Agency (NSA) plot using previously unknown malware to penetrate specially made backdoor vulnerabilities in Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL) iPhones.
- The FSB identified victims involving several thousand Apple phones, including domestic Russian subscribers, Reuters reports.
- The Russian spy agency also claimed telephones belonging to foreign diplomats from Russia and the former Soviet Union, including those from NATO members, Israel, Syria, and China, as targets.

- The FSB said the plot reflected the proximity between Apple and the National Security Agency, responsible for U.S. cryptographic and communications intelligence and security.
- The Russian agency alleged Apple of providing American intelligence agencies with a wide range of opportunities to monitor any persons of interest to the White House and their partners in anti-Russian activities and citizens.
- Previously Apple drew regulatory attention for its vulnerability to NSO Group spyware.
- Price Action: AAPL shares traded higher by 0.23% at $177.66 in the premarket on the last check Thursday.
