On Sunday, New York Gov. Kathy Hochul announced the opening of the first store selling recreational cannabis in the Capital Region, reported The Record.
As part of New York State's Seeding Opportunity Initiative and the state's equity goals in cannabis licensing, the new Schenectady-based retail location - dubbed Upstate Canna Co. — comes on the heels of opening the first store run by an entrepreneur previously criminalized by cannabis prohibition.
Located at 1613 Union St., the new conditional adult-use retail dispensary will be owned and operated by a local entrepreneur Don Andrews.
"We're building an equitable adult-use cannabis market that provides a safer product for New Yorkers while offsetting the harms caused by the disproportionate enforcement of cannabis prohibition," Hochul said.
In New York City, one of the first recreational cannabis dispensaries to be awarded a CAURD license is now offering home delivery to customers. Housing Works Cannabis Co's storefront at 750 Broadway in Astor Place offers all of the shop's products for delivery, except infused drinks.
In addition, The House of Cannabis, situated at the intersection of Howard and Broadway, announced a grand opening event scheduled for Friday, April 7. A 30,000 square building is home to new cannabis and will feature a private lounge and ground-level gathering space featuring community events, a café, a corner store, live glassblowing and a curated assortment of cannabis-inspired lifestyle products.
Meanwhile, in Michigan, cannasseurs can now purchase marijuana in five new dispensaries:
In the Sunshine State, three companies expanded their retail footprint:
