Elon Musk's Decision To Allow Cannabis Ads On Twitter: It's A New Frontier And Benzinga Is Part Of It

Author: Jelena Martinovic | March 22, 2023 09:55am

Elon Musk made headlines last month by allowing ads for CBD and THC products on Twitter, the social networking giant he recently acquired.

Now, two Twitter execs, Alexa Alianiello (Twitter U.S. Sales & Partnerships) and Rohan Routroy (Twitter NEXT) will share more insights on how to plug into the platform and connect with a leaned-in customer in their featured keynote session at Benzinga's upcoming Cannabis Capital Conference

This is the first time Twitter will be meeting with cannabis industry executives to discuss the role the social networking giant will play in our industry, being the first platform in the social landscape to open the door to cannabis advertising.

The Cannabis Capital Conference is returning to Miami Beach April 11-12, 2023.

Following Twitter's decision to allow advertising on its site, cannabis companies like Trulieve Cannabis Corp (CSE:TRUL) (OTCQX:TCNNF), Amuse and PAX jumped on the opportunity, delighted with the decision to treat cannabis like any other consumer products category. The move enabled brands to help shape the conversation and elevate the industry.

Watch Benzinga Live here from 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. ET today, Wednesday, March 22, to hear more from seven major cannabis executives about the impact of Twitter's decision on the industry.

Elon Musk & Cannabis

One of the most influential CEOs in the world recently expressed his unambiguous support for cannabis by tweeting "420" – a message that resonated with Twitter users worldwide.

Moreover, Musk, CEO of Tesla, Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) and Twitter, has been asking the right questions to address the need for cannabis policy change.

Nearly three years ago, at the beginning of the pandemic, he tweeted the following: "Selling weed literally went from major felony to essential business (open during a pandemic) in much of America & yet many are still in prison. Doesn't make sense, isn't right."
