Elon Musk's Promise Of 'Very High-Resolution' Radar Reportedly Coming To Tesla EVs Next Year

Author: Shivdeep Dhaliwal | December 08, 2022 07:35am

Tesla Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) reportedly plans to add radar to its vehicles next month after abandoning the technology earlier.

What Happened: In a request made to the U.S. Federal Communications Commission, first noted on Electrek, the Elon Musk-led automaker said the device “will not be marketed until Mid-January 2023.”

Previously, it was reported that a new high-definition radar was spotted in Tesla’s parts catalog. In February, Musk said that a "very high-resolution radar is relevant.”

Tesla did not immediately respond to Benzinga’s request for comment on the development.

Why It Matters: The FCC granted confidential treatment to Tesla which means the agency would forego releasing details on the new radar. The Musk-led company has now filed for an extension, reported Electrek.

The emergence of the upcoming radar assumes significance as Tesla had previously touted its “Tesla Vision” system for all ADAS features after the removal of the radar, according to a prior report.

The company registered a new high-resolution radar with the FCC in June.

Price Action: On Wednesday, Tesla shares closed 3.2% lower at $174.04 in the regular session and fell another 0.4% in the after-hours trading, according to Benzinga Pro data.
